BTEC Tech Award in Digital Information Technology

Students will learn a mix of Creative Design and Technical Knowledge. Ideal for learners who want to progress to a Digital Apprenticeship or BTEC Level 3 Nationals. This is a new digital qualification that gives students a real insight into the modern fundamentals of IT. A stepping stone to careers like IT Project Management, Technical Support and Cyber Security.

Students will enjoy learning about the creativity of the User Interface design element and the opportunity to work towards a realistic work scenario. Cloud storage and cyber security aspects can be related to social media like Instagram and Facebook to make the content interesting and relatable to students.

  • Component 1
    • Exploring User Interface Design Principles and Project Planning Technique; this will be an internal assessment but externally moderated. The students will receive 36 guided learning hours. Once this has been completed, the student will come away with an understanding of interface design for individuals and organisations. Be able to use project planning techniques to plan, design develop and review a user interface.
  • Component 2
    • Collecting, Presenting and Interpreting Data, another 36 hour guided component, like component 1, this will be an internal assessment and externally moderated. Through this part of the GCSE, you will understand the characteristics of data and information and how this helps organisations in decision making. They will use data manipulation methods to create a dashboard to present and draw conclusions from information. The three learning outcomes for the component are, understand how data is collected and used by organisations and how it’s impact on individuals. Be able to create a dashboard using data manipulation tools and be able to draw conclusions and review data presentation methods.
  • Component 3
    • Effective Digital Working Practices, this has 48 guided hours and is an external synoptic, the students will explore how organisations use digital systems and the wider implications associated with their use. Your assessment objectives will include, demonstrating a knowledge of facts, terms, processes and issues in relation to digital information technology , demonstrate a understanding of facts , terms processes and issues in relation to digital information technology. Finally, make the connections with the concepts, issues, terms and processes in digital information technology.
