BOA Digital celebrates World Book Day 2025

To mark World Book Day, we asked teachers at BOA Digital Technologies to share their favourite books and some even explain why they love them. Whether it's a gripping thriller, a timeless classic, or a thought-provoking memoir, each book holds a special place in their hearts. Their selections reflect a wide range of genres, themes, and personal connections, highlighting the power of storytelling to inspire, entertain, and educate.
Reading is not just a pastime; it is a gateway to new perspectives, knowledge, and imagination. Books have the ability to transport us to different worlds, introduce us to unforgettable characters, and challenge our ways of thinking. They can provide comfort, inspire change, and ignite a lifelong love of learning. In a fast-paced digital world, reading remains an essential tool for personal growth and understanding.
Here’s what our teachers had to say about the books that have left a lasting impact on them:
mrs. nasir - every dead thing by john connolly
A gripping thriller following former NYPD detective Charlie "Bird" Parker as he hunts down a serial killer known as the Traveling Man, all while haunted by the ghosts of his past.
miss green - pride and prejudice by Jane austen
A timeless classic that grows with the reader, offering sharp social commentary, witty writing, and a protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet, who challenges expectations.
Why it's my favourite? Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is my favorite book because it’s a story that grows with you. I’ve read it several times at different points in my life, and each time, I connect with it in a new way. It’s more than just a love story—Austen’s witty writing and sharp social commentary make it funny, relatable, and surprisingly modern. Elizabeth Bennet is a strong, intelligent character who challenges expectations, and her relationship with Mr. Darcy is full of misunderstandings, personal growth, and real emotion. No matter how many times I read it, it still resonates with me, proving that a great book never gets old.
mrs. whittaker - where the crawdads sing by delia owens
A beautifully written novel set in the Southern states, following Kya, a resilient young girl growing up in isolation in the North Carolina marshlands.
Why it's my favourite? I love books set in the Southern states and stories that take me on an emotional journey. It's a story of quiet resilience which is something I really admire.
mrs. dyson - a Christmas carol by Charles dickens
A beloved tale of redemption, following the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge as he is visited by three ghosts who reveal the past, present, and future consequences of his actions.
miss Farah - I shall not hate by izzeldin abuelaish
A deeply moving memoir from a Palestinian doctor who, after suffering personal tragedy, chooses forgiveness and peace over hatred.
Why it's my favourite? This is my favourite book because of the raw emotion that is conveyed in the book. Abueliash's personal losses are shared with such honesty that the reader can feel his pain and his strength.
miss Gordon - ready player one by ernest cline
A thrilling sci-fi adventure set in a futuristic virtual world, where a teenager embarks on a high-stakes quest filled with puzzles, danger, and nostalgia.
Why it's my favourite? The book is full of action, cool video game references, and lessons about friendship and believing in yourself.
mr carter - one flew over the cuckoo's nest by ken kesey
A powerful story of rebellion, centering on Randle Patrick McMurphy as he challenges the oppressive rule of Nurse Ratched in a mental institution.
miss Barnett - good vibes, good life by vex king
An inspiring self-help book that offers hope and motivation, encouraging personal growth and positive change.
Why it's my favourite? I picked that book because at a time in my life when things were every challenging, I read it and it gave me the hope that I needed to keep pushing forward, it inspired me to believe in myself and reflect on decisions that I had made and make changes to move forwards positively taking accountability for my actions.
miss hart - around the world in 80 trains by monisha rajesh
A fascinating travelogue that captures the joy of train journeys across the globe, filled with adventure, culture, and unforgettable encounters.
mrs. mackie - our mutual friend by Charles dickens
A rich and symbolic novel exploring themes of wealth, identity, and morality in a macabre portrayal of Victorian London.
Why it's my favourite? I studied ‘Our mutual friend’ for A level. The story centres on an inheritance - Old Harmon's profitable dust heaps - and its legatees: young John Harmon, presumed drowned when a body is pulled out of the Thames, and kindly dustman Mr Boffin, to whom the fortune defaults. With brilliant satire, Dickens portrays a dark, macabre London, inhabited by such disparate characters as Gaffer Hexam, scavenging the river for corpses; enchanting, mercenary Bella Wilfer; the social-climbing Veneerings; and the unscrupulous street-trader Silas Wegg. Dickens's last completed novel is richly symbolic in its vision of death and renewal in a city dominated by the fetid Thames, and of the corrupting power of money.
miss florea - think like a monk by jay shetty
A guide to mindfulness and self-improvement, offering wisdom on finding peace and purpose in everyday life.
miss chapman - wool by Hugh howey
The first book in a dystopian trilogy, set in a mysterious underground Silo where inhabitants uncover secrets about their world.
Why it's my favourite book? I was inspired to read this after watching 'The Silo' - two brilliant series that use the first book Wool.
