History

The qualification provides a broad and diverse study of History that engages students with both British and World History, while equipping them with skills for future academic progression. The structure of the qualification offers flexibility to select from a wide range of popular and new topics, ensuring an engaging and coherent course. By aligning the GCSE with the A Level specification, we ensure smooth progression and a well-rounded historical education that builds on prior learning and prepares students for further studies.

If you pick History as one of your GCSE options, you will sit three written assessments.

  • During Paper 1 - Thematic study and historical environment
    • You will have 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the assessment. You can select what topic to do when sitting for the assessment. The students can pick one of the following options:
      • Crime and punishment in Britain and Whitechapel, Crime, Policing and the Inner City, medicine in Britain, the British sector of the Western Front, injuries, treatment and the trenches. Warfare and British society and London and the Second World War. Migrants in Britain and Notting Hill.

This will be worth 30% of the GCSE and receive up to 52 marks (16 for the historical environment, 36 for the thematic study). Marks for SPaG will be done after the initial marks given.

Each of the three papers are different times, the second paper is 1 hour 50 minutes and worth 40% of the GCSE and the third paper is 1 hour 30 minutes, earning only 30% of the GCSE like the first paper that you will sit.
