English Language

There will be three parts of the English Language GCSE. Explorations in creative reading and writing, writers’ viewpoints and perspectives and a non-examination assessment of spoken language.

Creative Reading and Writing - Section A (one literature fiction text) Section B (descriptive or narrative writing) Worth 50% of the GCSE Reading (1 short form question, 2 longer form questions and 1 extended question) Writing (1 extended writing question (24 marks for content, 16 marks for technical accuracy).

The students will be assessed on one non-fiction text and one literary non-fiction text. The writing exam will be focussed on writing to present a viewpoint. This written exam will be 1 hour and 45 minutes worth 80 marks (50%) of the GCSE with the same style questions as the first paper but viewing the writers’ viewpoints and perspectives.

The non-examination assessment, the students will be assessed on presenting, responding to questions and feedback and the use of standard English. This will be set throughout the course and marked by the teacher. This will be a separate assessment, which won’t be included in your final GCSE qualification.
